Poseidon’s Biologists can perform bird sweeps and wildlife sweeps depending on client need for pre-harvest and pre-disturbance projects.

Bird and nest sweeps are conducted as a tool to maintain compliance with the federal Migratory Bird Convention Act and provincial Wildlife Act that provide protection for birds and their nests from disturbance or destruction.

Together, these acts provide protection for native and migratory bird species, their nests, eggs, and young from disturbances or harm. The purpose of bird nest sweeps is to avoid disturbance and destruction to nesting birds and their young in areas where vegetation clearing is proposed. A qualified Biologist can conduct bird nest sweeps pre-disturbance to mitigate risk to any protected species.

Wildlife sweeps are completed as a condition of project approval to identify key wildlife features that require protection such as nests, dens, hibernacula, and mineral licks. Our Biologists are trained to recognize these features.
